DP – Charlotte

This reporter has seen many great matches and today’s was no exception. KC, the golden boy, after last week’s no show debacle wanted to set the record straight. He was out for revenge. He wanted blood and Puma blood would do just fine. Puma, happy and carefree as usual was out for fun and didn’t realize the intensity and fierceness that he was about to encounter. TM decided to stay home this week to rest his tender aging shoulder after last week’s valiant attempt to harness Puma. The weather was ideal for disc golf. Temps in the 70’s, with low wind and low humidity.
KC “Eagle” Reeves started off the Sugar Creek course with a bang. On the difficult #1, Eagle Boy launched a nice drive through the trees on route to his first par of the evening. Puma maybe showing a bit of age didn’t warm up enough and limped in with a bogey. On the long narrow #2, Eagle Boy made a great tee throw to score his second par while Puma again made bogey. Things didn’t look well for the wily cat and the trash talking had started. The talking was enough to awake the cat from his slumber. Although Eagle Boy made another tremendous tee throw, Puma struggle to find some accuracy. However, from 81 feet away, Puma launched his third shot into the basket to save his par. A bit startled, KC clanked his much shorter par putt letting Puma claw to within one stroke.
Puma launched a wonderful drive on wooded #4, missing an ace by a few feet and landing about 20 feet behind the basket in the woods. KC, a bit in awe after that shot, nicked his tee shot off a tee into the woods on the left side. Puma clanked his birdie attempt while KC struggled to get out of the woods. Puma dropped in his par putt but KC made his putt to stay 1 up. On #5, Puma gain a stroke as KC nicked another tree and scored a bogey.
On #6, the first of 2 elevated holes, Puma 3 putted trying to get it into the basket that is 8 feet off of the ground. KC scored a bogey to go up 1 stroke. On #7, KC obviously distracted by the tree limb jutting across the entire tee box made a poor drive. Puma launched a nice drive to tie the match up once again. KC registered his 4th straight bogey on #8 while Puma carded another par to go up 1 stroke. Puma gave the stroke back immediately on #9 to finish the front 9 tied with KC.
Both players scored pars on #10. KC mis-threw his drive on the long #11 and that bogey gave Puma a 1 shot lead. Things looked grim for Puma on #12 until he reached into his bag of tricks and landed a par saving putt from 54 feet away. That putt seemed to demoralize Eagle Boy who had been hoping that his 5 foot par putt would tie things back up. Both players scored bogeys on the difficult #14 and #15 holes. KC dropped another stroke on #16. After both made pars on #17, Puma coasted into #18 with a 2 shot lead. KC made an absolutely magnificent throw. Puma clipped a tree on his drive to add to the drama. Puma struggled to recover and clipped another tree. Puma’s 3rd shot brought him close to the basket. KC knew he had to make his birdie attempt to bring the match to even. Under pressure, with the crowds gathering to watch this epic battle, KC sent his mildly difficult birdie try towards the basket. Somewhere and at some other time, KC may make that putt but today was Puma’s day to taste the sweet victory and KC’s birdie try fell a few feet past the basket. Puma made his 8 foot bogey putt to seal the victory.
