Three daring adventurers played today at Kilborne Park in Charlotte, NC. Luckily this honest, truthful, wonderful, intrepid reporter was also there to witness this historic occasion. It was a new course for the 3 golfers. The daylight was now lasting longer and it was now feasible to resume playing. Since Sunshine Reeves, TM Gilman and Puma Pawson were in Charlotte, it was time to find a course.
The 3 took a bus out to Kilborne Park. Walking the ½ mile from the bus stop to the park, the excitement could be felt. DG was here again. There was a crowd around hole #1, so the 3 got directions to the 10th hole and started the round there. KC launched a nice drive towards the hole. TM was a bit rusty and went right towards the woods. Puma went a bit left but was still in good shape. All 3 players made par.
Sunshine & TM slipped up on a putt on the second hole to give Puma the lead. Puma gave the stroke back on the next hole although Sunshine refused to accept it. On the 13th hole, Puma made the par 3, KC made 4 (giving up another stroke) while TM did his best Bushman impression and carded a 7. While TM and KC exchanged 4 and 5 over the next 2 holes, Puma made pars increasing his lead. Puma faltered on the last 3 holes but managed to take a 2 shot lead over KC going into the turn with TM 3 shots further behind.
On the first hole, TM decided to go for the glory and threw his disc across the fairway, through the trees and across the 2 lane road. KC decided it was time to turn it up a notch and scored the first birdie of the young season. KC caught Puma on the 4th hole tying the score when Puma scored a double bogey 5. However on the next hole KC decided it was too easily and went for the challenge of doing it twice as he carded a 6 to give Puma a 3 shot lead with 4 holes to play. Puma valiantly tried to answer this young upstart by making par on #6, leaving Puma with a 3 shot lead with 3 to go.
Then the pressure started taking its toll on Puma. Making 5 when his putt hit the chains and fell out on the difficult #7, Puma opened the door. Both KC and TM answered with a 4. The lead was down to 2 with 2 holes to play. Puma scored another 5 while TM scored a 4 and KC roared in with a 3, tying the score yet again.
On the last hole, KC launched a monster drive curving left towards the hole only to deflect off a tree and end up about 25 feet away but with a clear shot. Puma stepped up and threw a poor shot into the woods. Puma’s second shot got him within 7 feet of the hole. Sensing that Puma was going to make par, KC lined up the long birdie putt. He let the disc fly through the air, zeroing in on its target and *CLANK* off the basket and onto the ground. Puma made his par putt while KC dropped in his par.
It was over too soon. The final scores (non handicap) were KC 67, Puma 67 and TM 76.

You can beat them!

Good course, lots of woods, which makes things interesting. Unfortunately, it's also good cover for snipers. I might have done better except for taking a couple of armour-piercing rounds on the third hole, hole 12. Good game under fire, and an exciting battle for the tie.

It's a new record!!!

It was an amazing day at Kilborne Park in Charlotte, NC today. This humble yet modest, truthful reporter was awe struck by what transpired at today’s match. KC “Grieving” Reeves was out for revenge after last week’s humiliation lesson at the paws of Puma. Grieving Reeves was talking smack all week trying despartly to gain any edge he could. The intrepid 3 players plus this 1 reporter and a gang of squirrels and other rodents were on hand to watch this duel. Puma was, as usual, ready to go. TM Gilman was out to show that last week was a fluke and his shoulder problems were not going to slow him down.
The expected duel started on the opening hole as both GR (Grieving Reeves) and Puma made pars with TM managing to avoid the road this time but still carded a bogey 4. On the second hole, GR, already cracking under the pressure, launched a weak throw into a rocky culvert on the left. Puma launched a respectable drive also to the left. TM decided it was time to prove something and launched a magnificent drive down the right side, curving left through the trees like a guided missile and coming to rest about 5 feet from the hole. TM stepped up to make the first birdie of the night. Puma made his second par while GR fell a shot down with a bogey.
On #3, TM launched a nice drive down the right side; Puma went more for the middle while GR continued his pitiful weeping with a mighty heave into the trees on the right. Puma, once again, made par as did TM with GR limping in with a double bogey 5. However, the winds of change started blowing on #4 as it was Puma’s turn for a bogey 4 but neither GR nor TM could make a move as they scored 4 as well. That changed on #5 as Puma made his second bogey but TM and GR both took advantage with pars. GR’s weeping became almost unbearable as he went another shot down on #6 but he got things under control making up a stroke on the difficult #7. Puma made a wonderful 45 foot birdie on #8 as TM stumbled to a double bogey 5. Puma stumbled on #9 making double bogey allowing GR and TM to close the gap. At the turn it was tied at 31 for GR and Puma with TM one shot behind the leaders.
Puma made a strong move opening up with 2 consecutive birdies to take an early 2 shot lead. On the supposed par 5 #12, KC “Eagle” Reeves made his first eagle of the night. There is a large dispute about the eagle claim but the course has several holes listed as par 5’s although most are easily reachable in 2 great or 3 good shots. However, since the course is published with the hole listed as a par 5’s, the eagle was noted. Both Puma and TM made the par 5, knotting up the lead once again. Eagle Reeves made his second eagle on the par 4 #13, taking a 2 shot lead as both Puma and TM made pars. Puma stopped the slide as he and ER (Eagle Reeves) made pars on #14. Puma made his 4th birdie of the night on the par 4 #15. TM made par and ER made bogey putting the leaders in yet another tie for first. On the par 5 #17, Eagle made his 3rd eagle of the night with a magnificent drive and a great second shot. TM moved up on the outside with a birdie as Puma labored to make par. ER cinched the victory with a par on #18 to finish with a 59, eight shots better than the previous week. Puma stumbled in with a 63, a 4 shot improvement while TM finished with a 65, a whopping 11 shot improvement from the previous week.
The scores were:

Hole K.C. Duane Darrell
1 3 3 4
2 3 3 2

Heck, I couldn't bear to hear KC's wimpering any more. Yes, I gave him the match just to make him happy. But give him credit, he did play well for the most part. Both KC and TM can provide some reasonable competition on some holes. I agree that the eagles were questionable. However the birdies were beyond question as 3 out of the 4 birdies were done in 2 strokes. I'll take back the title next week.

Puma, you are the greatest. You are such a team player. We love you!

Thanks gang. I'm glad the reporter (who ever he/she is) didn't mention that we decided to play an additional 9 holes after we finished the first 18. Even though KC is so much younger and should be stronger as we played further into the day, plus we decided to play the back 9 with its 3 supposed par 5's. KC was getting a bit giddy and I felt I had to send him a message for next week. It was hard not to take away his "victory" or "gift" so close to the completion of the first 18, but something had to be done. TM tried but it ultimately fell on my shoulders. It was a tough battle but in the end, I will let the scores speak for themselves. We finished the extra 9 holes with the following scores: KC 31, Puma 31, TM 32.

I see the reporter that did the DG news is alive and well with the slant toward Puma.... even the posse is starting to hold their collective noses.

the course sounds like fun though.... I need to get the group back out to the fore palms

Poor Puma, I see his delusions of grandeur are still affecting his prose.
Someone should ask him about the villanous TWAC snatching that occured in Florida not too many weeks ago......funny this grieving Queen still has her suspicions, Puma was known to have been stalking in the area at the time. Come home princess, we miss you !!

The match was a great one. Puma seemed to be coughing up some hairballs on the field which was a sad sight to see. In the grand scheme of things, the good did well, but the great came out on top. Keep chasing those pipe dreams Puma.....poor kitty. I'll leave a string on my back so you can entertain yourself when your second or third shot finds my first one. As usual the great cat took off sprinting then quickly realized it was a marathon. Perhaps I'll also bring a can of Ensure so you can last the full 18.

I see that the golden child has played quite a few rounds with Puma.

*sigh* I can see that my young padawon just doesn't get it. Oh, there is so much to teach these youngsters and so little time in which they listen. I guess I'll have no choice but to knock golden child down a peg or two. However, being as gracious and magnanimous as I am, I'll try to gently teach him and console him afterwards. The force is strong with him but control he has not. Truthfulness, humbleness and gratitude also lacking is he. Learn soon he shall.

Ah the true sign of old age....Delirium. Learning to lose, sir, is something that I don't think I want to learn from you. Though it can be said, you are a true master of your craft. The jedi of losing, the king of crumbling, the sultan of second place. Let's all applaud while the last horse crosses the line. Take comfort, Puma, that you can claim yourself as "The Silver Child"....for now...till you lose that one too.

I've always thought of puma as the "Knight in tarnished armor, sitting astride his sway backed nag, holding his bent lance". He has alot of gusto, heart... he really is a legend in his own mind. But we do have to into account at his age, the arm and the mind are one of the first things to flee.

It must be said, that tee to hole two shot bounced off the basket on a skip, and, if it hadn't been for the war wound, Puma hanging onto my left leg and yelling choke, and K.C. thumbing my eyes and trying to fasten his teeth in my nose, it would have gone into that basket and the next one. Sportsmanship, feh. If they wanted to make things fair, one of them should have had a hatchet.
